Breathing, Anxiety and the Brain

A recent study found that breath holds and breath-work can dramatically alter brain chemistry that can mimic the brains of experienced meditators:

“We pose that a meditation-like process acting as psychological facilitator, alongside an important dissociation between the body physiology and the mind, are instrumental for sustaining prolonged voluntary dry, static apnea”

This is very relevant to what is happening right now in our uncertain world today. When you’re stressed or anxious, your breathing tends to be irregular and shallow. Your chest cavity can only expand and contract so much, which makes it hard to get more air in. That’s why I love breath-work and the power it has on changing our brain states.

COVID-19 and the Brain

Findings from a recent study suggest that SARS-CoV-2 infection may promote chronic neurodegenerative disease. Below is a snapshot of the highlights with the attached link.

Thursday Thread Q&A

On Thursday we hosted our Inaugural Q&A thread that you can all be part of. Each week I will post a topic and question and will be available to answer anything within the hour of posting it.

Our first one was centered around a topic I get asked frequently:

“What are you measuring and working on and what results are you seeing?”

You can check the entire thread and view the questions and answers here

FITLIGHT in Miami

We have a certification coming up n Miami in collaboration with FITLIGHT which I am so excited about!

You will learn the science of brain training and how I use particular methods and protocols to train my elite athletes.

On September 25th, FITLIGHT will be hosting a full day course for coaches, trainers, athletes, therapists, or those interested in neurocognitive training to understand how you can use the FITLIGHT to gain greater results in a training session.

Health Fraud

Elizabeth Holmes, the founder of the defunct blood testing start-up Theranos, arrived at U.S. District Court in San Jose, Calif., earlier this week.

Ms. Holmes is battling 12 counts of fraud and conspiracy to commit wire fraud over false claims she made about Theranos’s blood tests and business

The prosecution:

“This is a case about fraud and about lying and cheating to get money,” said Robert Leach, an assistant U.S. attorney for the Northern District of California, who is leading the prosecution for the government. Leach contended that Holmes knew that some patients’ results from Theranos blood tests were inaccurate and didn’t act.

“Out of time and out of money, Elizabeth Holmes decided to lie,” said Leach, who argued Theranos used glowing media and false claims to draw in investors, partners and board members, including Rupert Murdoch, Walgreens and Henry Kissinger.

“The scheme brought her fame, it brought her honor, and it brought her adoration,” Leach said. Some of that adoration lives on today, albeit with a rebellious slant.

Well folks that’s it from me 😊
