🎙️ Understanding Modafinil and other Smart Drugs. How they enhance mental performance 🎙️

With Dr Jonathan Wisor, PhD

In this Episode I sit down with Dr Jonathan Wisor from Washington State university to discuss the phamacology of the limitless drug ‘Modafinil’.

Cognitive enhancing drugs are claimed to improve cognitive functions such as learning and attention. However, little is known presently about the characteristics of off-prescription cognitive enhancing drug users or their perceived everyday experience with these drugs. Modafinil has been the drugs of desire for a long time now. If you ever saw the Bradley Cooper movie called limitless, you probably wish you had access to this drug.

Laboratory studies have even shown that it may have potent antioxidative and neuroprotective effects. Modafinil is also of a high interest to the US military for enhancing alertness and reducing battle fatigue.

So why isn’t everybody on this drug? Well In today's podcast, I host a guest who knows more about the science of modafinil than anyone. Dr Jonathan Wisor who is a professor of cell biology at Washington state university and researchers circadian rhythms.

Here is a short clip I posted to Instagram from our interview together…

Specifically, we discuss:

  • What modafinil is and why it is so popular

  • The various neurotransmitters that are associated with modafinil

  • Antioxidant and neuroprotective effects of modafinil

  • How modafinil use can go wrong

  • How modafinil affects sleep cycles

  • And much more.

This conversation is a fascinating one, and there’s a lot to learn in this episode. You can find this episode on Apple Podcasts and Spotify Podcasts and YouTube. For more insights and reflections, visit The Neuro Experience Podcast website.

Enjoy, friends.
